The Doosan fleet of articulated dump trucks …

Spring 2011

Refined features highlight operational innovations for conquering the most challenging conditions and jobsites

Doosan® Moxy articulated dump trucks are loaded with innovative design and technical features that provide you with a competitive edge and significant advantages for enhancing performance and ultimately, your bottom line. The unique product design inherent in each truck reflects the Doosan concept — a collection of sophisticated technical features — designed to maximize your productivity, even in the most challenging conditions.

With larger load capacities in all weight class categories and superior power and traction considerations, the Doosan lineup consists of four impressive models — the MT26, MT31, MT36 and MT41 — each with several critical attributes that collectively make our fleet of articulated dump trucks the most reliable, dependable and cost-effective available today.

“The Doosan articulated dump trucks provide several outstanding advantages for contractors,” says Aaron Kleingartner, Doosan marketing manager. “Our articulated dump trucks feature many advantages that help enhance productivity, save fuel and keep operators safe and comfortable.”

Power
Doosan installs proven, reliable and powerful diesel engines, with exceptional torque to help maximize efficiency by minimizing fuel consumption. Size, power rating and horsepower of the engines installed in each model — with gross power ratings ranging from 310 to 444 horsepower — have been carefully selected to achieve maximum performance relative to several criteria, including load capacity, driveline performance and transmission efficiency. The 6.48 hp/ton power-to-weight ratio leads this class.

The state-of-the-art frame and body design utilizes lightweight, high-grade, wear-resistant steel that results in reducing the total weight of the truck and reduces the power needed when empty — a factor that ultimately helps achieve operational efficiencies. In addition, Doosan uses a transmission configuration that features smooth gear shifting — an attribute that maximizes net power transmission to the drive system and helps enhance fuel efficiency.

Traction and Stability
The free-swinging rear tandem bogie and unique articulation system offer the best possible ground contact in soft and difficult terrain. A sloping rear frame, in combination with the track width, provides a lower center of gravity, which increases lateral stability, eliminating the need for wide, low-profile tires.

The superior driveline design also ensures maximum traction performance and durability. Having the turning ring located in front of the articulation joint helps provide equal weight distribution to the front wheels in all situations, including at maximum turning position.

This makes it possible to use the differential with only 45 percent locking value — a feature that allows drive to both wheels in all situations without completely locking up — and proves to be a major design advantage relative to competitors. Competing designs use 100 percent differentials on the front wheels, a situation that often causes steering difficulties and creates more force on the driveline when turning and greater wear on tires.

Doosan offers permanent, six-wheel drive, which provides stability and equal weight distribution in all job applications. The unique suspension design allows independent axle movement, and allows each tire to make maximum ground contact, thus reducing shock. Most competitors use a rigid axle configuration that increases side-to-side movement of the truck during operation on uneven terrain, resulting in a bouncing effect that can cause operator discomfort.

Comfort
The fully independent front suspension system and new cabin design offers unparalleled levels of operator comfort. Air conditioning and an air suspension operator seat — along with precise steering, good visibility and low noise levels — helps enhance the operating experience while accentuating efficiency.

The “trip-tronic” gearshift feature enables the operator to run the truck in both automatic and manual gear functions to ensure the smoothest possible gear-shifts and momentum during operation. Sloping hood design provides an excellent view — both front and rear — from the operator’s position. Add to that the benefit of low cabin vibration provided by rubber suspension mounts. It’s easy to understand why contractors who choose Doosan are sold on all the many features that make operating Doosan articulated dump trucks a pleasant experience.

Maintenance made easy
Attention to regular maintenance is one of the most important functions owners and operators can do to extend equipment life and maximize productivity and efficiency. The Doosan design concept makes maintaining your articulated dump truck easy with remote-mounted service points that allow general servicing to be completed at ground level. In addition, the tilting cabin and innovative hood design — capable of opening to 83 degrees — provides excellent access to major service points. What’s more, an automatic central lubrication system is standard on all models.

Dedicated product development
Doosan is committed to building construction equipment that is reliable and helps contractors enhance operational efficiencies. Doosan knows the importance of operator comfort and safety and is diligent in its consideration for the environment.
